Shifting: Heel or Toe?

I've had my RG for about four years and from the day I got it I heel shifted. Last week, I went back to toe shifting. IMHO, it seems like a smoother motion up or down shifting.

I'm curious as to what shifting method you prefer....

This is gonna' sound stupid, but if I'm wearing boots, scuff'm, don't care. BUT if I'm wearing my Cons, that black rubber will ruin a shoe, quick.

I changed the shifter pegs from rubber to chrome on my bikes with one of these from OG:

And even then with a chrome peg my Cons still get dirty, but nowhere near the black rubber.

I love heel/toe , always adjusted both as low as possible , where all you ahve to do is barely raise your foot to shift ..

That said , years ago I removed the heel shifter , rather have the floorboard space for my boots , aint worried about scuffing the boot ..

Heal toe. One pair of boots are jacked from road wear, and the newer pair is just a pair of boots.

My ‘11 RG wouldn’t go into neutral unless I toed it, the ‘18 is a smooth neutral with a heal hit.

The very first thing I did when I bought my 09 (back when they actually came with them) new was remove the heel shifter. I could never get used to it, plus I wear size 12 shoes and I wanted the extra room on the floor board. I normally ride with sneakers but when I do wear boots for work they are composite toe which makes the toe thicker so I have the shifter a little higher to get the boot under it. When wearing sneakers i have to raise my toes up a little higher than most because of that but im so used to it now it doesn't bother me.

I don't care about scuffing my boots or my Cons. I went years without a heal shifter but after a 2 week tour through all the Rocky Mountain winding mountaqin roads I could find, I added a Yaffe hidden heal shifter to give me an alternative to only toe shifting on my Road Glide. I have floorboard spacers and the hidden heal keeps the floorboard space open and I can lock the heals of my boots onto the back of the boards. On my Shovelhead, I only use a toe shifter. Both bikes I use an LA Choppers extended alloy toe shifter peg, which doesn't mark as much as rubber shifters and I find is easier to slip my boot under to toe shift on my Glide when I want to. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/la- ... _id=888402

Toe for me, I tried heel when I first started out riding but just couldn't get used to it. Felt very awkward

Heel, easier move from my highway pegs to heel shifter (back step motion) and back to the pegs. Been using this setup since the late 90"s when my police bike came with the heel setup. (not LEO just had a used PD bike for a while).

I keep waffling between heel/toe and toe only. Things I like and dislike about both. The big one is the heel shifter peg can get in the way when I want to shift my foot position around on the board, but it's really a matter of finding the right spot and not a huge issue if the boards are large enough. With heel/toe I can set the lever positions a notch lower which is also nice. Dammit, now I want to put the heel shifter back on, LOL.
